Transcription of Letter of Thomas Emory
wherein he offers his services to his country.

Annapolis   June 15 1812

Dear Sir,
It appears that war will indispensably be the state in which
our country will shortly be placed, and the necessity of defending must follow of course. To become the soldier and be called long and distant from home would be as inconvenient to me as to most men; but this sacrifice will however with pleasure by me be made, and you will be pleased to communicate to the executive of our state that my services are hereby tendered to them as one of the quota as required from our division.
